Unit Purpose:

Students will learn the vocabulary of philanthropy, use literature to discover acts of philanthropy in the making of quilts, and participate in their own quilting bee.

Unit Objectives:

The learner will:

  • define and use the vocabulary of philanthropy.
  • compare and contrast quilting stories related to tradition and philanthropic concepts.
  • describe historic acts of philanthropy by interpreting traditional quilt patterns.
  • fulfill a need in the community by working collectively on a project.
